We move in alongside our friends at Geographx to share this amazing historic building. Built in 1907, the observatory was the Greenwich Observatory of New Zealand and was just as critical for time keeping and surveying. Before the days of radio communications, the only way to establish a precise time was to survey using the sun and stars.
You can find out about the observatory here http://www.doc.govt.nz/conservation/historic/by-region/wellington-kapiti/wellington/dominion-observatory/ and you can download a more detailed brochure here.
It’s fitting that we’re moving into a building with these historic ties to the geospatial community. We’d love to show you around our new home – please take a ride up the cable car and pop in.
