Gaining Certainty in Organisational Change: Highlights from Our Webinar

We teamed up with one of our partners, Nova Systems New Zealand and Australia, to explore how businesses can achieve certainty and success in organisational change. The session, led by Neil, our CEO, and Jack Hercus, Systems Engineer from Nova, provided a comprehensive look into digital transformation and how our LINQ solution can guide organisations through these complex processes. Here’s a summary of the key insights and takeaways.

Introduction: The Necessity of Certainty in Change

Change is inevitable in the business world, but managing it effectively remains a significant challenge. Whether introducing new technology, restructuring operations, or shifting business models, ensuring these changes lead to desired outcomes is crucial. Our webinar aimed to demystify the process of achieving certainty in organisational change through structured approaches and innovative tools like digital twins.

Understanding Digital Transformation

Digital transformation involves integrating digital technologies to add value not just for customers, but also for employees and the entire organisation. Neil highlighted that true digital transformation extends beyond technology, encompassing business model innovation, process modernisation and enhanced customer experiences.

Why Transformation Projects Fail

One startling statistic shared was that 70% of digital transformation projects fail, a figure that hasn’t changed over the past decade. Common reasons for failure include:

  • Data Overload and Lack of Insight: Organisations often drown in data but lack actionable information
  • Decision Paralysis: Without clear insights, decision-making slows, causing delays and inefficiencies
  • Scope Creep and Budget Overruns: Undefined project scopes and unforeseen issues can lead to significant cost and time overruns
  • Misalignment and Lack of Engagement: Disconnects between high-level goals and ground-level realities can derail projects

The Role of Digital Twins

The concept of a digital twin—a virtual representation of an organisation’s processes, systems, and data—was a major focus. Digital twins allow businesses to simulate changes, predict outcomes and identify potential issues before implementing real-world changes. This proactive approach reduces risks and enhances the likelihood of successful transformations.

Case Study: Transforming the RPAS Authorization Process

Jack from Nova shared a compelling case study on transforming a remotely piloted aircraft system (RPAS) authorisation process. Initially, this process was manual, involving paper forms, Excel spreadsheets and numerous handoffs. By creating a digital twin using LINQ, they streamlined and automated the process, resulting in significant cost and time savings:

  • Manual Process Cost: $85,400 per year and 1,000 hours, with only 14.3% of actions automated
  • Automated Process Cost: $20,000 per year and 219 hours, with 64% of actions automated

This transformation not only reduced costs and increased efficiency but also freed up the RPAS pilots to focus on their core activities, significantly enhancing operational effectiveness.

Engaging Stakeholders and Continuous Improvement

Successful change management requires active stakeholder engagement and continuous monitoring. Clear communication and regular updates ensure that everyone is aligned, reducing resistance and fostering collaboration. Continuous feedback loops allow for real-time adjustments, maintaining momentum and ensuring long-term success.

Summary: Navigating Change with Confidence

Achieving certainty in organisational change is multifaceted, involving the right tools, strategies and mindset. Our webinar underscored the importance of digital twins, data-driven decision-making, stakeholder engagement and continuous monitoring. By adopting these practices, organisations can navigate change more effectively and ensure their transformations lead to sustained success.
